Matthew Welling was a professional sailor who, together with his wife, Liz, has traveled all over the world. As a grinder, he has raced in four America’s Cup campaigns, and in 2007 won the “Auld Mug” as a member of the Swiss team, Alinghi. In 2003 he sailed on Mari Cha IV when she captured both the world record for fastest Transatlantic monohull crossing and the 24-hour distance record.
After winning with Alinghi, Matt and Liz moved their growing family back to Long Island’s South Shore where he is now putting his considerable strength to work handling Lucky 13’s oyster cages.
